Or you can venture beyond the Big Six to Gatorland’s swampy terrain, or hit one of the many epic waterparks around town. Located in Brevard County, midway down Florida’s East Coast, Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal is just 46 miles east of Orlando International Airport. The SR-528 toll road, also known as the Bee Line or Beachline Expressway, makes the journey quick and easy, taking motorists less than 45 minutes to go from city to coast. In 2024, Princess Cruises will begin to homeport the iconic “love boat” cruise ship, the Caribbean Princess, at Port Canaveral.
Restaurants and Amenities for Passengers at Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal
Port Canaveral has seven cruise terminals, each with its own unique address on either the North Side or South Side of the shipping channel. In total, Port Canaveral offers easy access to more than 50 destinations, including the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Eastern and Western Mexico. These include Costa Cruises, Cunard, Oceania, P&O, Tui, and Regent Seven Seas. This huge terminal covers 185,000 square feet, handles 10,000 pieces of luggage at any one time, and costs $155 million to build. It was specifically designed to serve as homeport to Carnival’s huge Mardi Gras cruise ship, which carries 6,500 passengers.

For those craving a boost of adrenaline, there’s the Dragon's Breath Flight Line. The Caribbean's longest zip line over water, it will send you soaring 500 feet over the bright cerulean sea. If that’s still not enough thrill for your day, there’s the Dragon’s Tail Coaster, which zips down a mountain at 30 miles per hours. You can get there on cruises from Orlando to the eastern and western Caribbean.

On November 5, 2016, in Port Canaveral arrived its ever largest passenger ship - Oasis of the Seas. The mega-liner docked at the new "Cruise 1 Terminal" (inaugurated in December 2014). For a 5-month refurbishment project in 2020 was closed Disney's Cruise Terminal 8 (June through November). The closure was for installing a new curtainwall-pile (breakwater), removing ticket counters, extending the drop-off canopy, replacing the current seating. Port Canaveral is the nearest Disney World city, situated about one hour east of Orlando by car. The driving distance to Tampa is 2 hours, to Jacksonville - 2,5 hours.
A myriad of landscapes, from coasts to mountains, await your arrival by sea. Your cruise vacation awaits you with exciting adventures and lifelong memories for the whole family. If you are driving into Port Canaveral, then there is the question of what to do with your car while you are on your cruise. Given the size of the port, there are a number of parking options. We cover all your options on our Port Canaveral cruise parking page — including prices and locations.
The right facility, the right ship, the right match.
In Orlando, ATM's are available at major hotels and and at all the theme parks. Renting a car is a good option, since the port is an easy 50-minute drive from Orlando International Airport. There are free shuttles at the pier for pickup, passengers can drop their cars off at the nearby rental office, and the rental companies have free shuttles to the pier. Those staying in Orlando post-cruise can return rental cars at the Orlando International Airport. Once you depart the ship, you’ll enter the terminal and pick up any luggage that you had the porters carry off the ship ahead of time. You’ll then enter the line to be checked back into the country by customs agents.
Before getting into an unmetered taxi, settle on a fare with the driver. If you request a taxi through your hotel, note that sometimes they use nonmetered, limo-service cars that may be more expensive. However, it's hard to plan ahead, due to the frequency of delays because of weather and technical problems. Check with hotels or the Kennedy Space Center for a schedule of space launches.
In August 2023, Port Canaveral commissioners allocated US$67,46 million for constructing two northside cruise parking garages. The larger facility (an 8-level garage with capacity 1940 vehicles) is adjacent to Terminals 5 and 6, while the smaller one (a 6-level garage with capacity 1081 vehicles) is near Terminal 10. In January 2018 was approved the construction of a new multi-purpose cargo ship berth ("North Cargo Berth 8" / NCB8). By the project were also built a seawall (900 ft / 274 m) and a pier extension (100 ft / 31 m) with capacity to handle vessels with max LOA length 850 ft/259 m. At the new berth can be handled various heavy project cargoes (including aerospace). The USD 17,9 million berth construction contract was awarded to the Tampa-based company Orion Marine Group.
CT8As you might expect given the relatively short distance to Disney World in Orlando, Disney Cruises has a large presence at the port. CT8 is the Disney terminal, where you’ll find its ships embarking to take families on cruises to the Bahamas and Caribbean. That way there’s no rush on embarkation day and you can relax before your cruise starts. Other ModesInterested in other modes of transportation to Port Canaveral like taxis, Uber/Lyft, and cruise line shuttles? They can all get you to the port, but are typically more expensive and/or less convenient than the ways listed above. Still, you can read about all your options on our Port Canaveral transportation page.
All told, the process will vary in length of time depending on a few factors — most notably the number of agents working to process the ship and if there are automated kiosks. Hotels with Cruise ParkingA nice perk with such a tourist hotspot is that there are a lot of hotels competing for your business. And as a cruise town, that means many hotels in Cape Canaveral will allow you to park your car while you cruise in return for a night’s stay. Sometimes parking is free, but usually it’s part of a package or an extra charge each night. That can save a lot of money in parking fees, and make it much easier for them to start their cruise.
It is recommended to check the current parking rates before your cruise to ensure you have the appropriate funds available. If you're heading to Orlando remember the summer and school holiday periods, in general, are the busiest seasons. The parks are naturally more crowded then, and lines for rides are longer -- an hour or more in some cases -- which can be frustrating, particularly on a first visit when you want to "see it all." Transportation packages with transfers to and from airports, hotels, and Port Canaveral. With an overwhelming world of choices, we understand you may need some personal assistance to plan your perfect vacation.
